Premenstrual syndrome
Premenstrual Syndrome is a term used for a set of symptoms of severe and recurrent nature, which are experienced some days before menstrual period. Among forty percent women, having their periods has such a severe experience of symptoms that they have to seek treatment. These symptoms have no defined time for appearance and can begin appearing at any time of puberty until menopause. The age, which is marked for more appearance os symotms starts from 20,’s to 30’s.
Stress and age are the factors, which can worsen the symptoms of this syndrome. The reason however, is not known until now. Women that are exposed psychological disorder like depression and panic disorder are far more susceptible to PMS as compared to other women. Family history is another factor, which contributes to the development of PMS.
There are more then one hundred and fifty disorders, which are associated to Premenstrual syndrome however; few are more common with their appearance. The common symptoms for PMS are:
- mood swings
- irritability
- depressive mood
- fatigue
- changes in appetite
- retention of water
- tenderness of breasts
- abdominal bloating
Cramps of menstruation and dysmenorrheal are not listed among the symptoms for PMS, however, PMS experiencing women can also experience menstrual cramps.
Symptoms of PMS can be relieved introducing changes with your dietary plans and exercising. Antidepressants are also used to treat psychological symptoms of the PMS.
