International Center for Research on Women (ICRW)
For 30 years, ICRW has conducted research in Africa and other developing countries to improve the lives of women in poverty, advance women’s equality and human rights, and contribute to their broader social and economic well-being.
ICRW’s groundbreaking research on HIV/AIDS in Africa has shown how gender inequality dramatically increases the vulnerability of women and girls to infection, and continues to restrict their access to treatment and care. ICRW’s strategic communications and advocacy work enhances policy and program attention to women and HIV/AIDS, including integrating gender into the Millennium Development Goals and working with UNAIDS.
Centre for the Study of AIDS at the University of Pretoria (CSA)
Based at the University of Pretoria, CSA seeks to create new and innovative ways to address HIV and AIDS, human rights, and economic development in southern Africa. It provides training expertise both on issues related to HIV and AIDS as well as leadership, citizenship, accountability and democracy. CSA also works closely with UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNESCO and many nongovernmental organizations and community-based organizations.
International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW)
ICW is an international network run for and by HIV-positive women which leverages their firsthand knowledge of living with HIV and AIDS to advocate for changes that improve HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support services. Drawing from research and experience, ICW helps inform and shape the agenda of both policymakers and the development community.
Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative (EGI)
EGI was founded in 2002 by Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and High Commissioner for Human Rights. EGI convenes, communicates with and catalyzes leaders from diverse sectors to bridge community-level best practices with regional and global decision makers. It works closely with the UNAIDS Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, and the Council of Women World Leaders.
